Taking care of your betta fish
Starting to take care of your betta and still asking
about can
I use tap water for betta fish sounds so amateur. No
doubt betta fish is prevalent all around the globe, but that doesn't mean you
take care of them as you may please.
They are lovely, have different color combinations
and unique skin patterns, and live to be the most unique and fantastic pets. If
someone is considering or thinking about bringing betta fish into their house,
they need to know a little about these fishes.
Which includes, taking care of these fishes, their
tank size, water properties, food quality, quantity, and a few other things.
Basics
Betta fish lifespan is not so many years; they live
for only 2 to 3 years, a maximum of 4 years, that's it. And their body length
grows about 3 inches long, which is considerably longer depending on the nature
of betta fish.
Male bettas often sometimes are kept in a single
aquarium for quite some time. It is because male bettas are commonly known for
their fighting instinct. Whoever comes close to them or tries to invade their
personal space sees this as a threat to themselves and their territory.
So they tend to fight back and, in the end, kill
them, injuring them and forcing them to flee the area. When male betta is kept
alone in a tank, he should be watched with great attention. If your male betta
shows any fighting or charging towards other fish ( aggression ), just remove
them from that tank or aquarium.
Bettas are great for beginners as they do not
require luxury and have no ample space to reside.
1.
Aquarium
The aquarium is the only place your betta will
reside its whole life. Getting that aquarium that lasts for so many years, has
significant space for toys and obstacles to be placed within, has excellent
build quality, and so much more is essential.
Bettas need around 3 gallons of the aquarium to meet
their living standard. But it is 5 gallons of the aquarium which is suitable
for them. Also, always buy the landscape version of the aquarium, as it has
more space and more places to explore, instead of buying a standing version,
which is not helpful, and the room is tight.
2.
Water
Betta ideal temperature for water is from 23 to 27 degrees
Celsius. And the current of water has to be as slow as possible, just like
slow-moving streams, shallow water, or slow ponds. This way, betta will not be
affected.
3.
Filter
Filtering water is also one of the most critical
components of the betta. They like to live in freshwater; the filter will eject
harmful components that are dangerous for their health, such as metals, irons,
chlorine, and others.
4.
Light
Light is not essential as these bettas can see in
the dark, but lightning gives your aquarium a unique and beautiful look. It
also plays like a spotlight on your betta, highlighting your fish most of the time.
5.
Decor
Decoration in the aquarium will lead your fish to
get out of boredom and be productive. They are explorers who will explore every
decoration piece you will place in the aquarium.
